How to use the GaitAid Virtual Walker
Using the GaitAid device is extremely simple.
One knob turns the device on or off and controls the volume too.
The control unit clips onto your belt or clothing.
The goggles are worn over eyes like eyeglasses.
In addition to seeing your surroundings, an image of a black and white tiled floor is seen floating ahead. The patient imagines stepping over the virtual tiles while walking. The tiles move ahead as you walk, giving you immediate feedback about how you are walking and stimulating you to lengthen your stride and walk with a steady rhythm.
By using the goggle's earphones, sound feedback is provided in response to heel strike and to sharp movements. The auditory feedback is very helpful in the process of re-learning how to walk properly again. The patient simply focuses on creating good rhythmical sound. Because the sound feedback happens as you walk, you almost subconsciously focus your mind on walking more steadily, adjusting your movements as you walk.
GaitAid Virtual Walker Safety
The GaitAid goggles are designed to be comfortable as possible and not to interfere with your ability to see ahead as you walk. However, it takes some practice to get used to the experience. Therefore, we recommend you practice with the GaitAid Virtual Walker in a safe path you are already familiar with. Especially at first. There have been no safety issues reported by patients in clinical trials or in home use.
