Yoram Baram, PhD, the founder of MediGait LLC, is a Professor of Computer Science and incumbent of the Roy Matas / Winnipeg Chair in Biomedical Engineering at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology.
He earned is BSc degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Technion, his MSc degree in Aeronautics and Astonautics from MIT and his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT.
In addition to his many years of teaching and research in systems theory and in learning theory, he has an extensive industrial experience in designing adaptive control and navigation systems. It includes designing a state estimator for the space shuttle autopilot at the Draper Labs in Cambridge, Massachusetts, designing inertial navigation systems for submarines and missiles at the Analytic Sciences Corporation in Reading Massachusetts, and designing an optical navigation system for low-flying helicopters at the NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.
In 2004 he was granted a US patent for an Augmented Reality Closed-loop Apparatus for aiding people with movement disorders. He received the Research Award for Best Platform Presentation in Research in Multiple Sclerosis of the 19th Annual Meeting of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers, Orlando, Florida, in June 2005. His recent research sheds light on the processes controling locomotion in the brain.
